Hi Everyone,
I’m really thankful for two great Easter services over the past weekend. To have 130+ people at our service on Good Friday and 150+ on Resurrection Sunday was really encouraging. We can trust that God was at work through his Spirit as the good news of Jesus death & resurrection was proclaimed.
I’m especially thankful for everyone who served in all sorts of different ways to help our Easter services be such a success. I could, at one level, just say “thanks heaps”, but as I read the first chapter of 1 Thessalonians in preparation for the beginning of our series this coming Sunday, I’m struck by how Paul expresses his thankfulness more deeply than this. Reflecting on Paul’s words, I think it’s better for me to say that I’m thankful for how our community serves one another, not because your serving is doing me a favor, but because as you serve, I see how you’re serving God and contributing to his great work of bringing glory to his name!
Particularly over these next couple of months with Simon on Long Service Leave, it’ll be really important that we’re serving one another well. Of course that means we need people to do jobs to help our Sunday services run well (we can’t do Sunday church without lots of people pitching in!), but I’m thinking just as much of all the informal work of checking in with one another and caring for one another as we do life together as a church. God has given us the gift of one another, that we might serve one another, as we wait for Jesus to return. As we love each other well, church really does become a wonderful picture of the love of Jesus!
(If you’d like to get involved in service on a Sunday, as always do chat to me – I’ve recently been praying that we might have a couple more people willing to have a go at serving on the coffee cart, and that we’d have one or two more people willing to try getting involved in leading our singing on Sundays. But there are heaps of other opportunities too!)
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday as we get into the book of 1 Thessalonians and think more about the thankfulness of Paul with Matt Lehmann preaching for us
In Christ,
Matt
