Pastor’s Letter – August 28th

Hi All,

I hope you’ve had a great week so far.

I always look forward to 8am on a Sunday morning. It’s about that time that we’re unlocking the doors and heading in to begin getting ready for another week’s church service. Sometime’s there’s a nasty surprise or two when a light won’t turn on or we discover junk left everywhere from an event the previous day. But what’s always great at that time of the week is seeing the band, and our sound tech and our setup crew and everyone else arriving to start getting ready for the morning. I always feel a great sense of comradery and fellowship as we get in and start getting things ready together. I know that sense of belonging and being in a team flows through into all our other serving areas on a Sunday too. In fact I reckon one of the best ways to feel like you belong to a church is by serving in a small or large way.

With that in mind I wanted to say another quick thanks to everyone who filled in our serving survey back in June-July. We’ve just now put out a new roster for the months of September and October and it’s great to see a few new names have come through that process and will be helping out in the next couple of months. If you’re one of those people jumping in for the first time, do check your emails to see if you’ve seen the roster come through, and take the time to make a note of when you’re on. You’ll get a reminder emailed out the week before you’re onto serve as well, but it’s good to be organised. Partly, being on top of things means that if for some reason it does work out that you have to change the date you’re rostered on, you’ll be able to get onto it earlier (ideally you can work out a swap with someone, and we can help you find who to swap with if you need that help).

Hopefully there aren’t too many ‘kinks’ in the new roster, but please talk to us if there are. We’re here to help! Can I say as well, it’s never too late to get involved in serving. We actually still have the serving survey online, so you can still go and fill it out if you never got your chance or have re-thought things. We’re always up for a chat about how you might be able to get involved too and happy to talk about where the gaps are.

We know there are various reasons why some of us won’t be able to serve, but we love to encourage it because we know what a benefit it is, both to the church, but also to the person serving!

See you Sunday,
